School has started, summer vacations have tapered into week-enders, and stocking up on leaf bags has taken on a new urgency.
But keep in mind that once the leaves are gone and the skies turn gray, outside living turns inside.
Get a head start with these do-it-yourself projects, keeping it simple with brush or roll-on paint, spray paint, painter’s tape and duct tape. Stir in your own creativity, and you can look forward to a whole new interior atmosphere.
First, consider repainting just one wall of a room a different color than the others. Using painter’s tape, you can also consider striping or any other design that suits your style and the look you want. For color selection and ideas, visit the Ace Hardware Paint Studio online, or better yet, visit your local Ace Paint Studio. You can choose from hundreds of free color cards to take home, or if you narrow your choices, a pint paint sample. There is also a full line of brushes and rollers in various sizes.
Don’t forget the impacts on color from different lighting. LED bulbs save money; an LED equivalent to a 60-watt incandescent can use as little as 9 watts. Also, they can be selected to emit different light, from warm to soft and even daylight. You can also discuss installing dimmer switches with your Ace sales associate so you can alter the look by changing the amount of light as well.
Finally, don’t ignore those switch plates. You can blend them in with your wall paint, or make them a stand-out part of your new décor. Try choosing from a wide range of duct tape colors and designs to cover your covers. Or use spray paint to make your plates look unique, like faux brass or silver with a hammered metal finish. Using your painter’s tape to cover some parts while painting others, you can even concoct your own designs on these mini-canvases.
