For many, Thanksgiving is about gratitude and celebration with loved ones.
If you or a family member will be spending the holiday in a senior living facility, Thanksgiving can still hold the same holiday spirit with these helpful tips!
1. Display seasonal decorations.
Check with the facility’s staff beforehand to find out what they allow, but simple decorations will help liven up a room. Look for a fall wreath or festive display of artificial pumpkins.
2. Enjoy a holiday meal with family - or new friends!
Senior living facilities like Hearthstone Communities in Woodstock prepare a full Thanksgiving meal for its residents.
Hearthstone provides a sumptuous Thanksgiving dinner with all the traditional foods such as turkey, ham, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, stuffing and all the trimmings.
“Residents are able to invite their families to attend for an additional charge. The normal select menu allows diners to choose not only the traditional turkey dinner but other selections as well,” said Dick Hattan, Director of Development at Hearthstone Communities “All are served restaurant style in the main dining room.”
3. Create new traditions.
If you’re no longer able to cook a full Thanksgiving spread as before, look for a new tradition to start with your loved ones. Make a “Thankful Tree” by writing down things you are thankful for, and hanging each one on the tree.
In addition to Thanksgiving Dinner, Hearthstone also celebrates Veterans Day for the veterans who live and work at the retirement community.
A celebratory service will be held on Monday, November 12, at 11 a.m.
A flag ceremony will be presented by the McHenry VFW along with the role call of veterans, living and deceased, who have called Hearthstone their home. The program ends with a final salute and the playing of taps.
