Astonishing greed

To the Editor:

The difference between Democrats and Republicans has never been more clear. Republicans are for the wealthy and Democrats are for the poor and middle class. The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer because the GOP refuses to end the Bush tax cuts and support President Barack Obama in making the wealthy pay their fair share.

Since the 1950s, the tax rate for the wealthy has gone from 90 percent to 35 percent under former President George W. Bush. Since 1978, the average CEO pay has gone up 725 percent while the average worker, 5.6 percent.

Obama has presented a plan to leave the tax cuts alone for those making less than $250,000 and only end the tax cuts for the highest 2 percent, which means their taxes would go up only on what they make over $250,000. The GOP says no – helping the rich is more important than solving the problems of the country. The greed is astonishing.

They claim to be such good Christians, but I guess they haven’t read the Bible – you know the part about “selling everything you have and giving it to the poor” (Luke 18:22-24). Republicans call helping the poor “giving all that stuff to those who do nothing.”

Instead of creating jobs, they stash their money away in off-shore banks to prevent paying taxes. Isn’t this tax evasion?

We the people are losing our voice. If you are not a millionaire and voting Republican, you are voting against your own interest.
