Don’t plagiarize

To the Editor:

Recently Rep. Joe Walsh was caught on tape at a town hall meeting disparaging his congressional opponent, Lt. Col. Tammy Duckworth, for talking about her service in our armed forces too much. This gaffe was widely criticized by veterans groups, as was appropriate.

In an effort to patch up his reputation with veterans, Rep. Walsh has proposed legislation this session to renovate VFW halls with taxpayer money.

This is a laudable goal, but one finds it interesting that Rep. Walsh would consider this a good use of taxpayer money.

What is also interesting is that Rep. Walsh copied the text of the bill, nearly word for word, from Democratic Rep. Tim Bishop of New York, without consulting with his office or asking him to co-sponsor the bill.

If Rep. Walsh is going to pander to voters, the least he could do is not plagiarize.
