No work zones
To the Editor:
Your Aug. 2 “Our View” editorial titled “Patience during latest road work” brings up several questions. While the basic premise of the editorial makes a certain amount of sense, ask yourself, how long should this patience last?
Case in point: I have been noticing for almost three weeks now that the overlay project on Alden Road has been sitting idle. Two years ago, Maguire Road had “No Passing” signs up all summer long because of temporary paint striping. The bridge projects to replace culverts in creeks last the full summer. The Route 173 bridge work lasted two full years. (The Mackinac Bridge took only four years to complete).
Why do they not finish a project before they are abandoned? Why are contracts let out to companies that do not have the resources to do them? With minimum traffic fines of more than $300, why are there work zones with no work being done?
