Population
The population of Johnsburg is 5,391 according to the U.S. Census Bureau, 2000.
History
The first recorded settlers arrived on Aug. 2, 1841 from the Eifel Region in Germany
The community’s first families formed Miller’s Settlement, possibly named after an early settler, Johann Baptist Mueller
The Nick Adams, Jacob Schmitt and Nick Fret families started a parish, St. John the Baptist
The church was organized in 1843 by Father Portman
The Johnsburg Community Club formed in 1922 for two main reasons: to see that the town was recognized and, when citizens were in need of improvements or aid, to ensure that the community would be backed by a progressive civic-minded organization
In the northeastern portion of what is now Johnsburg, was the village of Sunnyside
Sunnyside was organized and incorporated on April 9, 1956
In 1989, a committee of the Johnsburg Community Club formed to study of the future of Johnsburg, which still had not been incorporated
The committee chose annexation to the Village of Sunnyside, which was accomplished during the fall of 1991 - the following year the name was changed to the Village of Johnsburg

Claremont Hills, Shiloh Ridge and Running Brook Farm subdivisions pay their water bills to the Village of Johnsburg. If you moved out of one of these subdivisions, you must contact the Village with your last day of residence and new address to forward the final bill. If you move in to one of these subdivisions, you must contact the Village with your move-in date, name, address and phone number at 815-385-6023.
All other subdivisions pay their water bill directly to Whispering Hills Water Company and must contact them directly to get hooked up.
