Bomb threat made at bank

WAUCONDA – The Chicago FBI and Wauconda Police Department are investigating an attempted robbery that happened Tuesday afternoon at Wauconda Community Bank.

According to initial reports, a lone male entered the bank, 495 West Liberty, and placed a package on a counter. He then turned and walked away.

A note attached to the package claimed that a bomb was inside and instructed employees to place an unspecified amount of cash at a nearby location or the bomb would be detonated.

The robbery attempt was unsuccessful, as no money was removed from the bank, according to an FBI news release. The bank and surrounding area were evacuated.

No explosives were found inside the package, and no injuries were reported.

No additional information about the incident was available Tuesday night.
