MCCD offering solar cooking class in Ringwood, Woodstock insect program

WOODSTOCK – The sun will be used to make some snacks at a McHenry County Conservation District program this month. All programs require advance registration.

• Dragonflies and Damselflies: 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Valley Conservation Area, 13315 Pleasant Valley Road, Woodstock. After learning all about the life cycles of these winged creatures, attendees will set out to find, catch, examine and release both adult insects and their nymphs. The program is free for McHenry County residents and $2 for nonresidents. The deadline to register is Saturday.

• Cooking With the Sun: 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 1 at Lost Valley Visitor Center in Glacial Park, Route 31 and Harts Road, Ringwood. Adults and families ages 7 and older will learn how to harness the sun’s energy to cook food and make their own pizza box solar cooker. The program is free for McHenry County residents and $5 for nonresidents. The deadline to register is Monday.
