McHENRY – Centegra Health System is encouraging area women to attend a Mammo Monday event in September and bring their mothers, daughters, sisters and friends to a special, private setting to take control of their breast and bone health.
Attendees can take advantage of mammograms, bone-density screenings and free expert bra fittings. Light snacks will be provided.
Upcoming Mammo Mondays will be offered at the following locations and times:
• 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at Centegra Hospital – McHenry
• 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19 at Centegra Health Center – Huntley
Although a physician’s order is not necessary for a mammogram, a physician’s order is required for a bone -density screening.
The American Cancer Society recommends annual mammograms for women 45 and older to maintain breast health and as a proven way to detect breast cancer in its earliest stage.
The ACS encourages women at age 55 to have mammograms every other year. However, the ACS suggests women who want yearly mammograms continue to do so but should check with their health insurance provider for coverage.
