LAKEWOOD – The village’s Planning and Zoning Commission chairman is filling out the remaining two years of former Trustee Ken Santowski’s term.
Village Board members voted Tuesday evening, 5-0, to appoint Jason McMahon to the vacancy. McMahon was sworn in after the vote.
Santowski abruptly resigned from the Village Board last month and withdrew his candidacy for village president. He never publicly gave a reason for doing so.
While McMahon will not be up for election until 2019, village residents will see significant changes to the seven-member Village Board after the April 4 election.
Trustee Paul Serwatka is running unopposed to succeed Village President Erin Smith, who after two terms is not seeking a third. She previously served one term as a Village Board member. Incumbent Trustees Jeff Iden and Bev Thomas likewise are not seeking re-election.
Serwatka and his supporters founded the Lakewood Tax-Fighter Party and are running on a slate. Party candidates Philip Stephan, Richard Ritchie and Amy Fues Odom are running for the three open trustee seats, as are incumbent Gene Furey and former board member John Schrauf.
Furey acted as president pro tempore at Tuesday’s meeting in Smith’s absence.
