WOODSTOCK – A Crystal Lake man facing first-degree murder charges in connection with a double homicide is denying allegations that he shot his wife and her sister multiple times in their home.

Ryan C. Yarber, 31, appeared in court Friday with Assistant Public Defender Rick Behof and pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated domestic battery and child endangerment.

Crystal Lake police responded Aug. 3 to 185 Marian Parkway, Crystal Lake, after a report of a woman armed with a knife. Before police arrived, they also learned that a man with a handgun, later identified as Yarber, was at the house, authorities have said.

Police found 31-year-old Allania Yarber and her 15-year-old sister dying of multiple gunshot wounds inside the home, authorities have said. Officers tried to save their lives, but both died at the scene. The 15-year-old girl has not been named because of her age and a “request by family,” according to the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

Prosecutors have said that Yarber shot the two multiple times with a firearm while other children were present in the home, according to court documents.

One of the man’s sons was upstairs watching Netflix with a neighbor when the shooting occurred.

Yarber could be sentenced to life in prison if he is convicted.

He will next appear in court Sept. 22.
