CRYSTAL LAKE — Three people suffered minor injuries Wednesday morning after a car and a small school bus collided head-on in Crystal Lake.
Crystal Lake fire and rescue crews and McHenry County Sheriff's deputies responded about 8:15 a.m. Wednesday to Route 176 west of Briarwood Road for a report of a head-on car versus bus crash.
Three people were transported to Centegra Hospital-Huntley with minor injuries, Crystal Lake Fire Battalion Chief Rick Kaiser said. The male driver and female passenger of one vehicle were transported and the male driver of the third car was transported, McHenry County Sheriff's Deputy Sandra Rogers said.
Three District 47 students on their way to West Elementary school were on the bus. None were injured, District 47 Coordinator of Community Relations Denise Barr said in an email.
The male bus driver was cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash, Rogers said. Rogers said she did not know the driver's name.
A Nissan Altima could be seen with damage to its front end, and the Crystal Lake districts 47 and 155 small bus's front end also had damage. A Chevy Suburban was also involved in the crash and had rear-end damage.
Another bus transported the children to school.
Crystal Lake police assisted in blocking the roadway for approximately one hour.
