Island Lake police chief, sergeant placed on leave amid investigation

Island Lake Mayor Charles Amrich has sworn in an interim police chief as his office conducts an investigation that prompted the department's current chief and a sergeant to be placed on leave.

Retired Bartlett Police Chief Dan Palmer was sworn in Thursday, and will oversee the Island Lake Police Department while Chief Anthony Sciarrone and Sgt. Billy Dickerson are on leave.

Palmer, who worked for the Bartlett Police Department for 31 years, declined to comment on the nature of the mayor’s office’s investigation, noting that he could not speak about personnel matters.

“Obviously, my first concerns are policy review and things of that nature,” Palmer said. “I want to make sure that village residents and police officers are protected as well as possible.”

The interim chief plans to question two additional officers in connection with the investigation. Village officials could not immediately be reached to comment Monday.
