High school sports roundup for Thursday, Oct. 4

McHenry senior Payton Lange set a pool record in the 500-yard freestyle at the Warriors’ home pool in a 90-66 win over the Crystal Lake co-op Thursday.

Lange swam the 500 in 5:07.71. She broke a 25-year-old record held by Brianna Fowles at 5:08.44, set in 1993.

Lange also won the 50 freestyle (24.75).

Teammate Riley Tobin won the
200 freestyle (2:14.93). Megan Frost won the 200 individual medley (2:23.90). Melisa Nava won the 100 freestyle (57.12) and the 100 backstroke (1:03.29). Caileigh McCafferty won the 100 breaststroke (1:11.26).

McCafferty, Frost, Nava and Lange also teamed up to win the 200 freestyle relay (1:43.33) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:52.10).


Prairie Ridge 2, Hampshire 0: At Hampshire, Hannah Baudin had 23 assists, four kills and five digs for Prairie Ridge in a 25-16, 25-12 FVC win. Sammi Lockwood added seven kills and two blocks for the Wolves (19-2, 13-0 FVC). Olivia Annen had six kills and five digs.

Maddy Reinke had four kills, a block and an ace for Hampshire (17-10-1, 5-8). Riley Seagren had three kills and an ace.

McHenry 2, Dundee-Crown 0: At McHenry, the Warriors (12-12, 3-10) won, 25-19, 25-23, in FVC play. Jenna Brown led D-C (2-17, 0-12 FVC) with 15 assists and 11 digs. Claire Muhvic had seven kills. Hannah Krispin added five blocks.

Huntley 2, Jacobs 0: At Algonquin, Huntley (18-3, 11-2) defeated Jacobs (7-10, 6-6) in FVC action. Rachel Kaczorow had 13 assists and seven digs for Jacobs. Maggie Wallenberger added five kills.

Woodstock North 2, Johnsburg 0: At Johnsburg, Brooke Amann led North with 10 kills in a Kishwaukee River Conference win over the first-place Skyhawks, 25-17, 25-17. Amann also added five digs, an ace and a block.

Alyssa Wickersheim added seven kills for North (11-11, 5-4). Emily Eder had 18 assists and six digs. Lauren Kunke had seven digs.

Johnsburg drops to 12-9 and 6-2 in the KRC.

Richmond-Burton 2, Harvard 0: At Harvard, Sammy Duncan led R-B with seven kills in a 25-13, 25-10 KRC win. Kaitie Regnier had seven digs, and Jesse Klicker added seven assists for the Rockets (12-11, 6-3). Harvard fell to 3-26 and 0-8 in the KRC.

Marengo 2, Burlington Central 0: At Marengo, Abi Vito had 17 assists, and Bailey Bertrand had 10 kills in the Indians’ KRC victory, 25-20, 25-16.

Kaetlyn Jeschke had 10 digs. Hannah Faber added four kills for Marengo (18-8-1, 6-3). Lauren Aubry and Lillie Simons each had two kills and two blocks.


Dundee-Crown 2, Crystal Lake Central 0: At Crystal Lake, Roland Dearborn scored twice for the Chargers in an FVC win over the Tigers. Dearborn scored on a penalty kick in the first half. Calvin Carlos assisted Dearborn’s second goal shortly after halftime.

Damian Smiech made one save for D-C (14-3-3, 5-0-2), and Venancio Mejia also made one. Central drops to 5-7-1 and 1-5 in the FVC.

Crystal Lake South 4, McHenry 0: At McHenry, Alex Canfield scored twice for the Gators (13-2-3, 5-0-1) in an FVC win. Ryan Coughlin had a goal and an assist. Michal Dejworek also scored a goal. Matt McCaleb and Oscar Campos each made one save.

Austin Lichtenstein made seven saves for McHenry (8-7-5, 2-5). Logan Fried made one save.

Richmond-Burton 1, Burlington Central 0: At Richmond, Hayden Rudkin scored the only goal on a corner kick in the first half, assisted by Cole Vogt, in a KRC victory for R-B. Jacob Maldonado made nine saves, including two penalty kick saves, for R-B (7-10-3, 4-6-1).

Huntley 0, Hampshire 0 (2OT): At Hampshire, the Red Raiders (2-11-2, 1-6-1) and the Whips (10-3-5, 3-1-2 FVC) played to a scoreless draw in FVC play.

Huntley’s Lucas Clemetsen made three saves in 40 minutes of action, and Ethan Kornas made four saves in
60 minutes.

Jacobs 3, Cary-Grove 1: At Algonquin, the Golden Eagles (8-6-4, 5-0-2) topped the Trojans (4-7-2, 3-4) in FVC play.

Dario Gamboa scored for C-G, and Trojans keeper Nick Reineking made five saves.
