Three domestic battery charges against Illinois football player and 2017 Huntley graduate Olalere Oladipo were dismissed Tuesday in Champaign County.
According to the Champaign News-Gazette, the charges against Oladipo, 20, were dropped after the alleged victim and a witness called police and changed their stories.
The case was to have been tried by a jury beginning Tuesday. University of Illinois police arrested Oladipo in the early hours of Oct. 28 after he allegedly pushed a woman and caused bleeding on her lip. Oladipo pleaded not guilty to all three domestic battery charges the next day.
Oladipo, a redshirt freshman defensive lineman, was suspended indefinitely from the Illini football team after his arrest. Before his suspension, Oladipo had made seven tackles in four games in 2018, playing mostly as a second-string defensive lineman.
Illinois’ football season is over. Oladipo’s status with coach Lovie Smith’s team is unknown. Illini Inquirer’s Jeremy Werner reported Tuesday that Oladipo’s status with the team remains the same for now.
Oladipo committed to Illinois just before his senior season at Huntley in 2016. He was selected to the Northwest Herald All-Area second team on the defensive line in 2015 and 2016.
