A new salon promises to offer its patrons style with heart.
"It's our commitment to eco-friendly and naturally derived products and business operations," said co-owner Adam Swanlund, who opened his first McHenry County salon in October.
He and his life partner, James Gartner, opened their first salon in West Dundee about seven years ago.
"We have always dealt with ingredient sensitivities," Swanlund said. "It's just as important what you put on your body as what you put in your body."
The salon has a minimalist design, and guests are greeted with a hot beverage of their choosing. It offers products for hair, body and home.
Swanlund said he believes residents are seeking hair and skin care products with minimal effects on the environment. However, he said, awareness shouldn't compromise style or pleasure.
"People are becoming more conscious and aware of what things are made of," he said. "I think transparency in the beauty market has changed over the years."
Swanlund said he and Gartner split their time equally between shops.
"He and I play off of each other and support each other as a team," Swanlund said.
"We create a balance by taking mini vacations," Gartner said, adding that he cherishes working with his partner.
