A pedestrian who fatally was struck by a car in a Saturday evening crash was identified as 16-year-old Sydney Weber of Fox Lake, according to a news release from Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper.
About 5:30 p.m. Saturday, deputies were dispatched to the area of Wilson and Rollins roads in Ingleside for a crash with injuries involving a pedestrian, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
A preliminary investigation determined that an 18-year-old woman of Lake Villa Township was driving a 2016 Jeep Patriot south on Wilson Road when it struck a pedestrian, later identified as Weber, who had entered the roadway.
Preliminary autopsy results indicate that Weber died from injuries caused by blunt force trauma, according to the coroner’s release. Toxicology results still are pending.
“We have been in close contact with Sydney’s family, and our deepest condolences go out to them,” Cooper said. “This is truly an awful tragedy."
As of Wednesday, an investigation into Weber’s death is ongoing by the Lake County Coroner’s and Sheriff’s offices. The driver of the Jeep was unharmed and is cooperating with the investigation, according to the sheriff's office's release.
