High school sports roundup for Friday, Dec. 21

McHenry girls basketball put together a big fourth quarter Friday night, but Johnsburg fended off the Warriors in overtime, 58-56, to come away with the win at the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic in Richmond.

Morgan Madsen connected on three 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 20 points for the Skyhawks (9-6). Megan Madsen (10 points) also hit three 3s, Kaitlyn Owen scored eight points, and Katelyn Davis and Mackenzie Straulin each had seven points.

Katie Beyer provided McHenry (9-6) with 18 points, Ashley Wachter added 14, Jamie Howie had nine, and Izzy Gscheidle scored eight points.

Woodstock 47, Hoffman Estates 25: At McHenry, Emma Brand poured in 25 points to lead the Blue Streaks to a win at the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic.

Brand connected on 14 of 16 free throws. Madeline Harrah added seven points for Woodstock (3-12), and Erin Lockwood had six points.

Woodstock North 50, Crystal Lake South 40: At McHenry, Taylor Prerost scored a game-high 15 to pace the Thunder in their win at the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic.

Kaitlyn Ford hit three 3-pointers and provided North (7-9) with 13 points, Abby Hartmann added nine points, and Katelynn Ward scored eight.

Brooke Kuffel led South (3-11) with eight points, Emily Rich posted seven points, and Maddy Bush, Kyra Swartz and Ava Sevcik each scored six.

Prairie Ridge 49, Richmond-Burton 42: At Richmond, Karly Statter made 8 of 9 free throws to finish with a game-high 19 points in the Wolves' victory at the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic.

Sam Gablenz supplied Prairie Ridge (7-8) with 12 points, and Maddie Ljunggren made two 3s for six points.

Melanie Wagner and Kasey Miller each provided R-B (5-8) with 12 points, and Peyton Bannon scored eight.

Hampshire 55, Sycamore 53: At Hampshire, the Whip-Purs outscored Sycamore, 20-10, in the fourth quarter to rally for the nonconference win.

Ally Cermak shot 5 of 7 from 3-point range to finish with 24 points, Sarah Bowen scored 11 points, and Kelby Bannerman had six points and six rebounds for Hampshire (13-2).


Cary-Grove 53, McHenry 22: At Cary, the Trojans rolled to a Fox Valley Conference win behind 15 points from Frank Jakubicek.

Beau Frericks added 13 points for C-G (7-3, 2-2), and Daniel Sowa scored six.

Brett Loeding topped McHenry (1-10, 1-5) with eight points.

Jacobs 62, Prairie Ridge 35: At Crystal Lake, the Golden Eagles (5-6, 2-3) cruised past the Wolves (0-11, 0-6) in their FVC matchup.


Rochelle Triangular: At Rochelle, Marian Central improved to 12-0 on the season with wins over Harvard, 54-18, and Rochelle, 64-9.

Elon Rodriguez, Scotty Burke, Daniel Valeria, Bryce Shelton, Hugh Holian, Kaden Randazzo, Dylan Connell, Joey Fitzgerald and Thor Paglialong each picked up two wins.

Harvard earned a 39-37 victory against Rochelle. Bryce Fiegel, Nik Jimenez and Nathan Rosas each had two wins for the Hornets.


Johnsburg 2,747, Huntley 2,652: At Bowl Hi in Huntley, Johnsburg's Tony Murtaugh rolled a match-best 648 series to lead the Skyhawks to the win.

Murtaugh bowled games of 222, 214 and 212. Noah Clements had a 565 series with a high game of 216, and Cade Wizceb bowled a 563 series.

Huntley's Ethan Babicz rolled a match-high 227 game to finish with a 595 series, and Joe Kern had a 555 series.


Huntley 2,255, Johnsburg 2,079: At Bowl Hi in Huntley, the Red Raiders came away with a close win behind a team-high 510 series by Jen Spielman, who bowled games of 164, 163 and 183.

Gen Borsche bowled a 463 series for Huntley, and Cassie Lugo had a 463.

Johnsburg's Miranda Hopp rolled a game-high 225 on her way to a 517 series, and Kassidee Beasley bowled 426.
