High school sports roundup for Tuesday, Jan. 8

Hampshire's Ally Cermak scored 17 points and had four steals in a 46-28 Fox Valley Conference win for the Whip-Purs over Huntley on Tuesday in Hampshire. The Whips remain unbeaten in FVC play, tied atop the conference standings with Dundee-Crown.

Kelby Bannerman scored 12 points and led Hampshire (18-4, 7-0) with eight rebounds. Bannerman also had four steals. Morgan Haefling added five points.

For Huntley (6-12, 3-5), Kamsi Nwogu scored a team-high 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

McHenry 50, Crystal Lake South 37: At McHenry, the Warriors topped the Gators in FVC play behind 15 points from Izzy Gscheidle. Ana Interrante added 13 points for McHenry (13-8, 4-3). Ashley Wachter contributed nine points.

Brooke Kuffel paced the Gators (4-13, 1-6) with 12 points. Kate Lawson added six points.

Cary-Grove 63, Jacobs 26: At Algonquin, C-G (5-12, 3-4) held off Jacobs (3-13, 0-7) in FVC play.

Richmond-Burton 47, Woodstock 37: At Richmond, Kayly Hogan led the Rockets with 17 points in a Kishwaukee River Conference victory. Kasey Miller scored 15 points, and Peyton Bannon scored 10 for R-B (8-9, 4-3).

Erin Lockwood led Woodstock (4-16, 2-6) with 12 points, while Emma Brand scored 11.

Marengo 51, Woodstock North 37: At Woodstock, Marissa Knobloch scored 15 points, and Jordan Parker added 13 for Marengo in a KRC win over North. Hannah Ritter contributed seven points for the Indians (14-5, 5-1).

For the Thunder (8-11, 2-4), Kaitlyn Ford, Abby Hartmann and Taylor Prerost each scored a team-high 10 points.

Johnsburg 59, Harvard 17: At Harvard, the Skyhawks (10-8, 5-3) defeated the Hornets in KRC play. Haily Hill led Harvard (1-15, 0-7) with 10 points.

Alden-Hebron 39, Elgin Academy 26: At Elgin, Rachel Pahl led Alden-Hebron with 10 points in a nonconference victory. Eden Wanderer added nine points for A-H (13-3), and Kendra Cashmore scored eight.


Cary-Grove co-op 107, Jacobs co-op 63: At Sage YMCA in Crystal Lake, the Cary-Grove co-op won eight of 11 events in a victory over the Jacobs co-op. Kolin Fadden won four events, two individual events and two relays.

Fadden won the 50-yard freestyle (22:41) and 100 freestyle (51.05). Fadden, Ben Castro, Michael Bartczyszyn and Cameron Castro teamed up to win the 200 freestyle relay (1:32.18) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:25.86).

Castro also won the 100 butterfly (53.10) and teamed up with Noah Siegmeier, Hunter Jackson and Peyton Richardson to win the 200 medley relay (1:40.89).

Richardson was a winner in the 200 individual medley (2:01.92). Jackson won the 100 breaststroke (1:01.71).

For Jacobs co-op, Vince Chiappetta won the 200 freestyle (1:50.96) and the 500 freestyle (4:53.97). Alec Orndahl won the 100 backstroke (55.02).

DeKalb 133, McHenry 37: At DeKalb, the Barbs defeated the Warriors in a nonconference meet.


McHenry 3,413, Huntley 3,282: At Bowl-Hi Lanes in Huntley, Dalton Atwater bowled a 672 series, leading McHenry past Huntley. Atwater recorded games of 220, 257 and 195. Teammate Cam Begley also broke 600 with a 664 series, including a high game of 235.

Meier Glab recorded a 566 series for McHenry, Drew Litcher bowled a 539, Jacob McLean added a 490 and Shane McCue contributed a 482.

For Huntley, Joe Kern led the way with a 651 series, including a high game of 246. Aj DeBello bowled a 617 series, with a high of 241. Ethan Babicz bowled a 545 series, Jerik Alcasid recorded a 530, Matthew Racila added a 514 and Mike DeBello bowled a 425.


Huntley 2,525, Wauconda 2,251: At 3-D Bowl in Island Lake, Cassie Lugo led Huntley with a 548 series and a high game of 232 in a win over Wauconda.

Mary Boffa bowled a 511 series, and Abby Matula finished right behind her with a 510. Gen Porshe’s 485 and Jen Spielman’s 471 rounded out Huntley’s team score.
