National Weather Service: Freezing rain, temperatures predicted for McHenry County

Coldest wind chills of the season predicted during this weekend

Patches of freezing drizzle were seen Tuesday across northern Illinois, including McHenry County, with ice accumulation and snow risks expected to carry into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

For areas that experience freezing drizzle, slippery road conditions could develop, especially on untreated roads and pavements, according to a special NWS statement.

Localized icing occurred on elevated surfaces, fences, cars and other objects Tuesday morning.

A weather system coming in Thursday morning will bring freezing rain to areas south of Interstate 80.

Light snow and ice accumulation are possible, according to a NWS hazardous weather outlook.

A stronger weather system then will bring widespread snow to the area Friday night and Saturday.

Lake effect snow also will linger into Sunday, according to the NWS.

On Saturday night, the coldest wind chill readings of the season are expected to arrive and linger into Monday morning, according to the service.

During this time, a limited excessive cold risk will be in effect.

On Saturday, McHenry County could experience highs in the lower 20s before dipping to highs between 10 and 14 degrees through Sunday night, according to the weather service.

An elevated lakeshore flood risk also will be in effect Saturday and Sunday.
