McHenry Police Department has reopened a stretch of Route 120 that was closed due to the weather.
Bad weather forced a road closure in McHenry, police warned Tuesday night.
McHenry Police Department issued a Nixle alert around 6 p.m. Tuesday warning residents to avoid Route 120 between Ridge Road and Ringwood Road "due to weather."
The road reopened around 6:40 p.m., according to a second alert.
"Please make all [efforts] to stay in tonight as the roadways are extremely slippery," the second alert read.
The National Weather service has issued a winter weather advisory for Lake and McHenry counties Tuesday. The winter weather advisory remains in effect until 3 a.m. Wednesday.
Heavy winds and snow showers are expected to continue into the night. A small amount of snow may accumulate, according to the NWS.
Strong west winds, gusting to between 40 and 50 mph at times are also expected to continue into the night. The strong winds could down ice-covered tree limbs and power lines
