To the Editor:
The question everyone should be asking is, when Republicans controlled all government spending in 2017 and 2018, why didn’t the Republicans appropriate the funding for the wall that the president now says is essential for the country’s security?
The answer is simple: A small group of reactionaries called the Freedom Caucus took control of the legislative agenda in the House and spent two years trying to destroy Hillary Clinton and the FBI.
The caucus was not concerned with passing meaningful legislation and bills to fund the government.
It spent two years investigating Clinton and the Justice Department.
As a result of its obsession with convicting Clinton and a few individuals in the FBI, government funding for fiscal 2019 was not completed by the start of fiscal 2019 on Oct. 1.
This allowed the president to partially shut down the government by refusing to sign an omnibus spending bill that would have completed all government funding for fiscal 2019.
