High school sports roundup for Saturday, March 16

Huntley scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to come back and beat Moline, 6-4, at the Prep Baseball Metro East Kickoff Classic on Saturday in Edwardsville to give head coach Andy Jakubowski his 300th career victory.

Trailing, 4-3, in the seventh, Hunter Rumachik tripled to score Michael Talesky, Aj Henkle scored Talesky on a sacrifice fly and Brandon Besch added a two-out single for Huntley’s last run, bringing in Joey Cauldren.

Henkle drove in two runs, Taleseky and Rumachik both had two hits and two runs, and Evan Tocmo added a triple. Davis Pasco tossed three innings in relief and allowed one unearned run to pick up the win.

Huntley (1-1) lost its first game to Joliet Catholic, 5-4. Talesky was 2 for 4 with a home run and two runs, and Tocmo went 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Eli Paplanus took the loss, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits over three innings. He struck out three and walked two.

Jacobs 8, Mundelein 5: At Joliet Route 66 Stadium, the Golden Eagles (1-0) pounded out nine hits in a season-opening win.

Daniel Klein was 2 for 3 with a triple, two runs and three RBIs, Christian Scianna scored two runs and drove in one, and Bryce Vincent (2 for 4), Quinton Schwartz and Julian Alba all drove in one. Mauricio Grosso was 2 for 3 with a double.


Grant 4, Johnsburg 0: At Fox Lake, the Skyhawks (0-2) were shut out in nonconference action. Grant scored three second-half goals.  

Grayslake North 2, Jacobs 1: At Grayslake, the Golden Eagles (1-1-1) suffered their first loss of the season. Tori Adams scored for Jacobs, and Kelsey Medina added an assist.  

Schaumburg 3, Crystal Lake South 0: At Schaumburg, Julia Martin had
10 saves for the Gators (1-2) in their nonconference loss.

Wauconda 6, Woodstock North 0: At Wauconda, the Thunder (0-1) fell in their season opener.


Bartlett co-op 14, Crystal Lake South 0: At Streamwood’s Millennium Field, the Gators lost their nonconference match to the Hawks. Bartlett, which combines with Streamwood, went 15-4 last season. 

South (0-2) is competing as an official IHSA team for the first time this year.


Byron Indoor Classic: At Byron, Crystal Lake Central won the 13-team meet with 131.5 points, defeating runner-up and Fox Valley Conference rival Prairie Ridge (86 points). Harvard (15) was eighth.

For Central, Peyton Falco took first in the 55-meter dash, Owen Mize won the 400 meters, Keegan Smalley won the 3,200 meters, D.J. Ulrich won the pole vault, William Martin won the long jump and Falco, Martin, D.C. Smith and Joseph Berg finished first in the 4x200 relay.

The Wolves got first-place finishes from Grant Jensen (800 meters), Ryan Fist (high jump), and the 4x400 relay of Ethan Baker, Jackson Willis, Fist and Jensen.

Jason Pichardo took third place in the 3,200 meters for Harvard’s top finish.
