McHenry County Coroner IDs boy killed in Sunday crash

Fundraiser in place for family

McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski has identified the child killed in a Sunday night crash.

Cameron V. Simmons, 10, of Addison, was pronounced dead at 8:25 p.m. Sunday at Northwestern Hospital – Huntley. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, Majewski said.

A GoFundMe has been established for the family. Funds will go toward the funeral and support services for Simmons' mother and twin sister, according to the page.

"Cam's mom needs time to grieve but is also worried about her job at the same time," Fundraiser organizer Monique Ceaser wrote. "His family is absolutely devastated and as you can imagine it is every parent's worst nightmare to have to say goodbye to your child."

The page had raised $565 of its $7,500 goal as of Monday evening.

Illinois State Police and Huntley Fire Protection District responded to the reported crash around 6:45 p.m. Sunday at Interstate 90 and Route 47.

Stacy Blume, 38, of Northlake, was driving a Chrysler van with two 10-year-old passengers, police said.

As she was driving on the westbound ramp to Route 47, she ran off the roadway and flipped over into the retention pond, police said.

The van was submerged on its roof. Passersby helped Blume and a 10-year-old girl out of the car.

Huntley Fire Protection District responders had to extricate Simmons and began CPR, Majewski said. All three victims were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Blume and the girl had minor injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.
