A 64-year-old Harvard man died after a Friday crash, McHenry County Sheriff’s Office officials said Friday afternoon.
The McHenry County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Kevin H. O’Connor.
Sheriff’s deputies, the Harvard Fire Protection District and Flight for Life responded about 8:30 a.m. Friday to the crash in the 6400 block of Shultz Road in unincorporated Harvard, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
The driver of a 2003 Honda Accord had crashed into a gate on the west side of the road.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the man was driving south on Shultz Road when he drove off the road for unknown reasons. The vehicle drove onto the shoulder and hit trees and a private entrance gate, according to the sheriff’s office.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the coroner’s office. He was wearing a seat belt. Investigators don’t suspect alcohol was involved, according to the sheriff’s office.
The incident remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Major Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
Funeral arrangements are pending, according to the coroner’s office.
