McHenry Deputy Police Chief Tom Walsh said police are investigating the matter, and criminal charges will not be filed. The incident occurred at CY Armory’s gun range. The man was in the range practicing his shooting when he went to put his handgun back into its holster and accidentally fired it, Walsh said.

He shot himself in the leg and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, Walsh said.

No one else was injured during the incident. McHenry Township Fire Protection District officials also responded.

CY Armory, 2908 Route 120, McHenry, is a gun shop and accessories business with a gun range. The company provides concealed carry classes and other firearms training at its McHenry and Arlington Heights locations, according to its website.
