WAUKEGAN – An appeal means there will be another delay in the trial of the wife of a Fox Lake police lieutenant who killed himself and made it look like it was a line-of-duty death.
Lake County prosecutors Wednesday asked a state appellate court to overturn a judge’s decision that martial privilege protects text messages they hoped to use in their theft case against Melodie Gliniewicz. A Lake County judge ruled last month that the text messages between Gliniewicz and her late husband, Fox Lake police Lt. Joe Gliniewicz, can’t be used at trial.
Melodie Gliniewicz was indicted after her husband committed suicide in September 2015. She has pleaded not guilty to charges including siphoning money from a youth policing program.
