Woodstock man flown to hospital after accidentally shooting himself, police say

A Woodstock man was flown to the hospital Thursday night after accidentally shooting himself in the leg, police said.

Woodstock Deputy Police Chief Ray Lanz said police were dispatched to a home in the 14300 block of Ryan Court after a report of an accidental shooting.

When police arrived, they found a 37-year-old man on the garage floor bleeding from his leg. Flight for Life took him to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with injuries that were not life-threatening, Lanz said.

The man told police he had been putting his handgun into his pocket when he accidentally fired it, Lanz said.

“There was no criminal intent,” Lanz said. “It was just an unfortunate accident.”

The man had a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification card. Alcohol may have been a factor in the incident, Lanz said.

He added no charges or citations will be issued.
