District 26 appoints new board of education member

Melinda Hartman was appointed Monday to fill vacant seat

Cary Consolidated School District 26 appointed a new Board of Education member Monday.

The board appointed Melinda Hartman, according to the district website. She will join six other men and women on the board. She took the Board of Education Oath which calls for her to encourage "equitable and quality education" for every student in the district.

District 26 includes Oak Knoll Early Childhood Center, Briargate Elementary School, Deer Path Elementary, Three Oaks Elementary and Cary Junior High.

In April, the district announced that school board member Len Kazmer had submitted his resignation notice, leaving a two-year seat open had to be filled by appointment.

Earlier this year, three write-in candidates won four-year seats on the board: Kathryn Potter, Deanna “Dee” Darling and Jason Janczak.
