Letter: How to get your Valley Hi rebate

To the Editor:

McHenry County property tax refund alert! Many are unaware, confused or do not understand how to apply for the Valley Hi Nursing Home rebate. If you are a homeowner who paid property taxes and claimed the homestead exemption last year, you are eligible for a very rare tax rebate from your portion of what you paid to McHenry County government, the top line on tax bills.

The County Board allocated $15 million for property tax relief. To be eligible, homeowners had to have taken the homestead exemption on the property during the 2017 tax year payable in 2018.

The rebate, about 30%, will be based on the amount that homeowners paid in property taxes for the county government portion of their tax bill. Homeowners can apply for the rebate starting June 1 by visiting mchenrytreasurer.org and clicking on the “Valley High Rebate” link. The deadline to apply is July 31.

Should you have questions, email the Treasurer’s Office at VHRebate@mchenrycountyil.gov or call the Treasurer’s Office at 815-344-4260.

Once your application is received, a check will be mailed for your rebate.

Take action, don’t miss this rare opportunity for tax relief.
