Memorial Day ceremony, parade to be held Monday in Algonquin

A Memorial Day parade and ceremony will be held Monday in Algonquin.

The Lake in the Hills American Legion Post 1231 will host the event.

The opening ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. at Algonquin Cemetery, 990 Cary-Algonquin Road, Algonquin. The parade will start about 10:15 a.m. and go south down North Main Street and turn onto North Harrison Street, according to a flyer from the legion.

The Memorial Day ceremony will take place about 10:30 a.m. at Riverfront Park, 201 N. Harrison St.

The ceremony will feature speakers including a Gold Star family, a Vietnam-era Navy veteran, a National Guard chaplin and more.

Weather permitting, there will be an Army Black Hawk Helicopter at Town Park, behind the Old Algonquin Village Hall on S. Main St. and Route 62.

Weather permitting, the helicopter will be available to sit inside or to look at from 8:30 a.m. to
1 p.m. Monday.
