The Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department would like to extend an invitation to all families, friends, veterans and the public to the Naval Station Great Lakes to be a part of the 2019 Fourth of July celebration from 3 to 10 p.m. July 4 at the historic Ross Field.
All are invited to come out and celebrate our country’s independence in a spectacular way with a full day of “fire-cracking” festival fun at one of the biggest Fourth of July celebrations in the area.
On July 4, a full music lineup on the Rock, White & Blue main stage will feature national, regional and local bands performing throughout the day. This year’s headliner is 38 Special, treating concert-goers to a masterful performance and riveting music.
A Rock, White & Blue VIP package is available for 38 Special that includes exclusive access to the front row section of the main stage.
In addition, there will be thrilling midway games, as well as an abundance of festival food and refreshing beverages from local area vendors. Children of all ages will have plenty to do in the award-winning Kids Zone, featuring tons of exciting “hands-on” activities, a petting zoo, an indoor rock wall, as well as live entertainment acts.
Festival-goers also will enjoy bingo for prizes, a paintball arena, military exhibits, plus roving performers and costumed characters that will be on-site working the crowds.
The night concludes with a spectacular fireworks display that will be choreographed to music. Visitors are promised a “must-see” fireworks extravaganza that will begin at 9:30 p.m.
The Naval Station Great Lakes is located off Sheridan Road in Highland Park. The festival offers free parking and no admission charge. For information, go to www.mwrgl.com or visit the Naval Station Great Lakes Fourth of July Facebook page.
