Woodstock man accused of dealing cocaine near park

A man accused of delivering cocaine near Sonatas Park in Woodstock remained at the county jail Friday evening on a $150,000 bond.

McHenry County Sheriff’s officers on Thursday arrested 23-year-old Jose Avila, of the 900 block of Quill Lane, Woodstock, according to a criminal complaint.

Avila is accused of possessing 15 to 100 grams of cocaine on May 21, and 1 to 15 grams of cocaine on April 10, according the complaint. He also is accused of possessing 1 to 15 grams of cocaine on May 2 while he was within 500 feet of Sonatas Park.

Further details about Avila’s arrest were not immediately available.

Avila is charged with delivery of cocaine, possession with intent to deliver cocaine near a school or park, possession of a controlled substance and possession of 15 to 100 grams of cocaine.

The most serious charges, possession with intent to deliver cocaine near a school or park and delivery of cocaine, are Class X felonies typically punishable by as many as 30 years in prison.

The McHenry County Public Defender’s Office has been appointed to represent Avila, who is expected to make his next court appearance Tuesday.
