To the Editor:
I’ve lived in McHenry my whole 16 years, and I’ve loved every bit of it. However, never have I been more ashamed of living here than I have in the past few days. Getting rid of senior/disability busing because it costs taxpayers less than $8 a year? That’s ridiculous, I can buy a popcorn at the movies for that.
If we can afford to buy a popcorn at the movies, can we not afford to give our seniors/disabled one form of independence?
Some of these seniors are veterans, entrepreneurs, doctors, and lawyers, who made this world a better place for us. By taking away their independence and, for some, their only mode of transportation, what life does that leave them?
Without transportation to get to the doctor, what will they do? I sincerely hope that these men will come to a consensus and do what is best for their community.
