Ethan Kirchberg proved to be difficult to stop during the lacrosse season.

The Prairie Ridge senior scored an area-best 59 goals and added 25 assists as the Wolves finished 14-3 and advanced to the Hoffman Estates Sectional championship game, where they lost to Barrington. Kirchberg is the Northwest Herald Boys Lacrosse Player of the Year, selected by the sports staff with input from area coaches.

Kirchberg had five goals, four of which came in the second half, in a 15-9 sectional semifinal victory over Cary-Grove. Kirchberg, a midfielder, led the Wolves with 67 ground balls. Prairie Ridge won the Fox Valley Conference championship and a regional title in this, the first year of IHSA lacrosse play for most area high schools.

Kirchberg finished his four-year varsity career with 180 goals, 93 assists and four All-FVC selections. Kirchberg, who also started at running back for Prairie Ridge’s football team, will play lacrosse at NAIA Columbia (Missouri) College next year with his twin brother, Ryan.

Kirchberg answered a few questions about being a twin, his dream ride and dream job and other subjects, from Northwest Herald sports writer Joe Stevenson.

What’s your go-to dance move?

Kirchberg: “The Macarena.”

What do you like best about competing in sports?

Kirchberg: I love the feeling of seeing hard work pay off.

If you could have any vehicle, what would you drive?

Kirchberg: Lamborghini Aventador.

Which one of your teammates makes you laugh?

Kirchberg: Dylan Steinkamp, because he always makes me smile based off his own laugh. Plus, he always knows how to get in my head at practice and loves to talk trash. It made practice much more competitive, and he even achieved the nickname “Practice Stein” because of the number of times he would frustrate the offense ... me especially.

Who would you most like to see in concert this summer?

Kirchberg: Kid Cudi.

If you could have a sandwich named in your honor, what would be on it, and what would it be called?

Kirchberg: A cheeseburger with mac and cheese and bacon bits called “The Thanwich.”

What’s the nicest gift you ever received?

Kirchberg: My dog, an English retriever named Willow.

Which professional sports team is your favorite?

Kirchberg: The Chicago Bears.

What would be your dream job?

Kirchberg: Astronaut.

What athlete would you most like to hang with for a day?

Kirchberg: Derrick Rose.

What sports event was so huge you’ll always remember where you were when it happened?

Kirchberg: The Blackhawks winning the Stanley Cup in 2015.

What is something everyone should know about lacrosse?

Kirchberg: That it is the fastest game on two feet.

What’s the funniest thing that ever happened when someone mistook you for your twin Ryan, or vice versa?

Kirchberg: In first grade, Ryan and I switched classes to fool with our teachers. It was kind of difficult at first, but we made it through the day without a trace.

Is there a significance to wearing the No. 7 on your jersey?

Kirchberg: Well, I couldn’t have No. 2 because an upperclassman had that number, and I was only a freshman, so at dinner that night I decided to choose my number based off the lucky number section in my fortune cookie. I narrowed it down to either No. 1 or 7 because I don’t like double-digit numbers, and I ended up choosing 7 because I couldn’t think of someone that had made a name for themselves wearing that jersey.

What do you consider must-see TV?

Kirchberg: “Stranger Things” on Netflix.
