Transportation of Vietnam veterans' memorial to cause traffic delays Tuesday

Commuters should expect traffic delays Tuesday as a Vietnam War veterans memorial passes through the area, police say.

A motorcycle escort for “The Wall that Heals,” a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., will travel Tuesday from the Woodstock Harley-Davidson to its West Dundee destination.

The wall is expected to reach the Lake in the Hills and Huntley area between 4 and 5 p.m., according to Nixle alerts from each police department.

Hundreds of motorcycles and Illinois State Police vehicles are expected to escort the truck that is transporting the wall, according to memorial’s website.

The memorial’s estimated time of arrival in Huntley is dependent on road and weather conditions, but drivers should plan for “major delays through town,” according to the alert.

Portions of Algonquin Road in Lake in the Hills and Huntley briefly will be shut down while the wall is being transported. Route 47 at Reed and Algonquin roads also will be affected, according to police.

The wall will be on display from Thursday to Sunday at Randall Oaks Park, 750 Randall Road, West Dundee.

Additional information about the memorial is available online at www.truepatriotscare.come/wallthatheals.
