Construction of a new Jewel-Osco at the northeast corner of Route 47 and Reed Road in Huntley is set to begin this fall, according to the village’s website.
In February 2018, the Huntley Village Board approved a business development agreement with Jewel Food Stores for construction of the new store, which was set to open by the end of 2019 at the cost of $11.5 million.
Because of a lack of available capital to build new stores, the agreement was amended to give the grocery chain until the end of 2020 to finish the building.
Dave Hene, senior real estate manager for Jewel-Osco, had told the board that there have been a lot of changes in the retail and grocery industries which have required priorities to shift.
All other terms of the agreement stand, including a provision that if the new store isn’t finished by the target completion date, the agreement could be terminated.
The store is expected to open by 2020, according to the village website.
The Jewel-Osco at Route 47 and Oak Creek Parkway recently held a grand re-opening after the completion of planned renovations, which also were included in the business development agreement with Jewel Food Stores.
Some of the new amenities the store offers include a salad, soup and wing bar and a sushi station with rolls made fresh daily.
The Jewel-Osco at 13200 Village Green Drive, Huntley, has existed since 2002.
