Lakeside Legacy Foundation has announced a new direction for its leadership. The foundation board has decided to hire two people as an executive director team. Nancy Merkling and Janet Kay each will begin their roles as co-executive directors of the Dole on Tuesday, according to the foundation.
Lakeside Legacy Foundation operates the Dole Mansion and Lakeside Arts Park. Its regular events include the annual Lakeside Festival, Christmas at the Dole and first Fridays art shows. A new reoccurring event is set to begin in October under the new leadership, according to the foundation.
Merkling and Kay each have experience in the business and arts communities, foundation board president Patti Lutz said.
“Through their combined acquired experience, the Lakeside Board of Directors feel they bring a unique set of skills, abilities and knowledge essential to the mission and vision of Lakeside,” she said in a statement. “We’re excited about the energy, enthusiasm and creative innovation that Nancy and Janet bring with them to work towards our common goal of taking Lakeside Arts Park at the Dole to the next level.”
The two co-own the photography company Nancy Merkling Productions and will launch the Fourth Fridays Art Event at the Dole on Oct. 25, according to the foundation.
“First Fridays at the Dole will remain as an event that serves the community, the schools and for regional artists to exhibit their work,” Lutz wrote in a statement. “We are going to brainstorm with the team here on how to do that with a greater impact.”
Siobhan Cottone, the former executive director, resigned in May.
