Body discovered near Prairie Trail bike path in Ringwood

A body was discovered Tuesday morning in a wooded area off the Prairie Trail bike path in unincorporated Ringwood, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.

Late Tuesday morning, the sheriff's office was called to the area south of Barnard Mill Road to assist the McHenry Police Department in a missing person investigation, the release said.

The location of the body was developed as part of an ongoing investigation by McHenry police.

An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday, the release said.

The investigation is ongoing and is being handled by the sheriff's office, McHenry police and the McHenry County Coroner's Office, according to the release.

Anyone with information should contact the McHenry County Sheriff's Office's Criminal Investigation Division at 815-334-4750.

The sheriff’s office had been overseeing an investigation into the disappearance of 20-year-old John Bicek of Hebron, said McHenry police officials and Bicek’s mother, Heather Lorenz.

A cellphone GPS app led Bicek’s parents to their son’s car, which was spotted near Fort McHenry Park, which the Prairie Trail bike path runs through.

Bicek was last seen July 30 and was reported missing Saturday.

Lorenz said Tuesday that her son's body was found but declined to comment further until an autopsy was performed.
