Letter: Trump's words matter

To the Editor:

The president, governor of Texas, the mayor of El Paso and the chief of police, all manged to speak to the tragedy at the Walmart without once mentioning gun control. The mayor said he’d never think this would happen in his city.

I’m sorry, but the president has been vilifying El Paso for weeks now, and it never occurs to him that some white nationalist moron might decide to solve the “problem” with violence. Americans can’t be safe in public anymore, and Trump owns a large part of that. We need action on gun control and mental health issues. My guess is it will be talked about and forgotten because of the power of the gun lobby. As Trump would say, “So Sad.”
