Man flown to hospital after car vs. semi-truck crash near Harvard

The driver of a small SUV was airlifted to the hospital Sunday afternoon after a crash left the man trapped under his vehicle, fire officials say.

The Harvard Fire Protection District responded at 12:15 p.m. to the area of Route 23 north of Bunker Hill Road, for a report of a crash with injuries, Harvard Fire Chief Steve Harter said.

Fire officials were unsure of how the crash occurred, but believe the SUV overturned after possibly striking the semi-truck and leaving the road, Harter said. There were no other passengers in the vehicle, and no additional injuries were reported.

The driver, whose identity has not been released, was ejected from the vehicle and trapped under the SUV, Harter said.

Flight For Life took the driver of the SUV to Javon Bea Hospital – Riverside in Rockford with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Harter said.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the crash but could not immediately be reached to provide further details.
