Jackie Ruiz has been named interim executive director of the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce after the resignation of the current director, Alli Magit. Ruiz starts Thursday.
According to an email from Matthew Horist, chairman of the chamber's board, Magit is moving to Wisconsin.
"Alli has been a great asset to the Chamber, and we wish her the best in her future endeavors," Horist wrote.
Magit and Horist were not immediately available for comment. Magit became the chamber's executive director in March after serving as the chamber's membership development manager. Magit's predecessor, Mary Margaret Maule, resigned to take a job with Exemplar Accounting and Tax Advisors in Crystal Lake.
Ruiz has been with the chamber for the past 12 years, Horist wrote, and is an "integral" part of the office's day-to-day operations.
She has managed the office, chamber events and worked as a liasion to the Board of Directors, Governmental Affairs Committee, Ambassadors, Finance Committee and the Crystal Lake Chamber Foundation Board.
The Chamber of Commerce's Board of Directors has appointed a search committee, made up of chamber members from each leadership table, to find a permanent director.
"Jackie is working closely with the committee to assist them while they complete a thorough search for a new Crystal Lake Chamber President over the next few months," Horist wrote. "Together they have a solid knowledge of the direction the Chamber needs to continue on to keep the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce as one of the strongest Chambers in McHenry County."
Ruiz said the decision to appoint her interim executive director was an internal one.
The search committee has been put together and will be posting the job within the next week, including specific requirements, she said.
Ruiz said the chamber is looking for a "good, strong leader" to be its next director, and someone who will work with and promote businesses in the area.
For her role as interim director, Ruiz said she wants to oversee the chamber and make sure it continues to run well while the committee starts the search for a new permanent leader.
Ruiz said Magit was great to work with.
"[Magit] has had so many great ideas, [and] put quite a few of those in place while she was here," Ruiz said. "She was a great director."
