It was a quick Queen of Hearts game at McHenry Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6400 this time around.
The Queen was found at first draw Tuesday. The winner – identified only as Florence H – chose card No. 7, which revealed the Queen. The jackpot was at $1,239,727, which means that Florence H won $619,874, before taxes.
Tuesday was the first drawing of the new round. The last game ended Aug. 27 in a drawdown, meaning tickets were pulled until the Queen of Hearts was revealed and the game ended. The drawdown was necessary to comply with city ordinances.
VFW Senior Vice Cmdr. Ben Keefe said Tuesday that the club would announce details for a new game in the coming weeks. Ticket sales currently are on hold, according to the club’s Facebook page.
The VFW will collect 40% of the total pot, and the remaining 10% will be set aside to start the next game.
Keefe announced Tuesday that work on several projects had begun.
“We are calling it the beer garden project, but it will be more than that,” Keefe said.
Club officials plan to construct a beer garden but also add two Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant bathrooms in the VFW bar area, install a new fire suppression system and convert the building from well water to city water, he said.
