A Fox River Grove man remained at the county jail Monday after police said he ran away from a drunken driving crash that sent one of his passengers to the hospital.
The single-vehicle crash happened June 28 in the 700 block of Barberry Trail, Fox River Grove. The driver, later identified as Daniel J. Richmeier, lost control of his vehicle while speeding through a residential area and landed on an embankment, Fox River Grove Police Chief Eric Waitrovich said. One of the three passengers in the car at the time was ejected from the vehicle, Waitrovich said. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office’s Technical Crash Investigation Team was called to assist the Fox River Grove Police Department with its investigation.
Richmeier, 26, of the 200 block of Circle Road, Fox River Grove, is charged in McHenry County court with aggravated driving under the influence and driving on the wrong side of the road.
Since police said he left the scene instead of helping a passenger, who later was flown with injuries to Advocate Condell Medical Center, Richmeier also is charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failure to render aid to an injured person and and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
Details about the woman’s injuries were not immediately available, but Waitrovich confirmed Monday that the female passenger is recovering.
Officers found Richmeier the same day the accident occurred, and collected a blood sample to determine whether he had alcohol in his system. Prosecutors approved felony charges once the blood test results were returned, and Richmeier was arrested Saturday evening, jail records show.
Richmeier’s bond is set at $50,000, meaning he would need to post $5,000 bail to be released.
He’s due in court Tuesday morning.
