The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department will host its annual open house from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at 110 W. Woodstock St.
The open house is part of Fire Prevention Week.
Activities will include displays of firefighting gear, fire engines, ambulances and other emergency equipment.
There will be tours of the fire station and hose drills for children, and people can practice exiting a house in the department’s Safety House, according to a news release.
The department also will conduct a demonstration of a sprinkler trailer and a door breaching.
Other groups and partners participating in the event include a Flight for Life helicopter and crew; Nicor Gas, which will be providing safety information; Southeast Communications Center dispatchers who will discuss 911 operations; The Salvation Army, which will provide refreshments; the McHenry County Substance Abuse Coalition; and the Crystal Lake Police Department.
Attendees can park at the Crystal Lake Municipal Complex, 100 W. Woodstock St., as well as the parking lot across from the fire station.
The event is free. The Crystal Lake Food Pantry will be collecting donations, and fire officials requested on the department’s Facebook page that residents who are able bring nonperishable food items, canned goods, personal care items and paper goods to donate.
