To the Editor:
Eliminating some Townships is warranted. Eliminating all would be detrimental. I will be voting to keep McHenry Township because they provide essential services that the county does not provide or does so at a higher tab than McHenry Township.
I've observed first hand when it snows that the Township crews are the first to be seen in our area. I've seen first hand the needed services the township provides to vulnerable seniors. To be fair, eliminating Evanston Township, whose border is contiguous with the city of Evanston, makes sense.
But out here in the rural areas, we need township services. I've seen my real estate tax postcard and the township amount is always smaller than everybody else. If anything, McHenry Township should be enlarged by eliminating Nunda Township and Richmond Township.
