Jerry Evans, a small-business owner and educator from Warrenville, became the eighth person to announce his candidacy as a GOP nominee for Illinois’ 14th Congressional District on Monday.
In a campaign video posted on YouTube, Evans said he decided to run after watching “radical politicians,” including 14th District Rep. Lauren Underwood, sell constituents on policies that would destroy the county’s foundation.
“I may not be a politician, but I think that Congress desperately needs more of the business-minded and common-sense problem solving that President Trump has brought to the White House,” Evans said in his announcement video. “It is time that we had a strong conservative leader fighting for our values and families.”
Some of the issues Evans said he will fight for include protecting Second Amendment freedoms and creating meaningful immigration reform.
“A country without a border isn’t a country at all and it is time Congress acts to fix our immigration crisis both at the border and within our cities,” Evans said in his video.
Evans is the owner and director of Jerry Evans School of Music in Wheaton and also manages commercial property in the Chicago area.
He faces a long list of challengers in March’s primary, including state Rep. Jim Oberweis, R-Sugar Grove; state Sen. Sue Rezin, R-Morris; financial futures trader Ted Gradel of Naperville; Kendall County Republicans Chairman James Marter; Catalina Lauf of Woodstock; Danny Malouf of Crystal Lake; and Anthony Catella of St. Charles.
