High school sports roundup for Tuesday, Oct. 29

Savannah Coats put down 11 kills and Dunja Masic had 23 assists to lead McHenry past Round Lake, 25-18, 23-25, 25-20, in a Class 4A McHenry Regional semifinal Tuesday night.

The Warriors (24-12) have their second-most wins in school history and can win their first regional title since 1997 Thursday when they face Lake Forest at 6 p.m. for the regional championship.

Taylor Zoephel contributed 13 digs, while Sara Boelkens and Abbie Honkala each added six kills.

Huntley 2, Rockford East 0: At the Class 4A Jacobs Regional in Algonquin, the Red Raiders (31-5) made short work of the E-Rabs in their semifinal match, 25-9, 25-5.

Taylor Jakubowski led the Raiders with 21 assists, Emma Konie has 12 kills and Josie Schmitendorf added 12 digs. Kylie Jenkins had 10 digs for Huntley.

The Raiders meet Jacobs at 6 p.m. Thursday for the championship.

Jacobs 2, Auburn 0: At the Class 4A Jacobs Regional in Algonquin, Maggie Wallenberger and Jaclyn Poirier each had eight kills as the Golden Eagles (16-18) defeated the Knights in their semifinal, 25-19, 25-20.

Ireland Van Stone added seven kills and three aces. Wallenberger contributed with nine digs and three aces, while Maddie Breeze came up with nine digs.

Guilford 2, Dundee-Crown 1: At the Class 4A Guilford Regional in Rockford, the Chargers (12-23) fell to the Vikings, 28-30, 25-20, 25-15, to end their season in the regional semifinal.

Makena Wesol had 13 kills and Natalia Smiech had 10 kills for D-C. Jenna Brown led the Chargers with 29 assists, six digs and three aces.

Cary-Grove 2, Lake Zurich 0: At the Class 4A Lake Zurich Regional, Evynn Layshock topped the Trojans (26-10) with eight kills in their semifinal win over the Bears, 25-16, 25-11.

Jenna Splitt led C-G with nine digs and two aces, Lauren Passaglia added 11 assists. The Trojans face Warren at 6 p.m. Thursday in the championship.

Crystal Lake Central 2, Sycamore 0: At the Class 3A Crystal Lake Central Regional, Maddy McCormick led the Tigers (33-3) with 10 kills and seven digs as they defeated the Spartans, 25-20, 25-13, in their semifinal match.

Madde Blake added 12 digs and four kills, Madeline Timmerman had five kills and four blocks and Olivia Anderson had six kills. Karina Simatos ripped five ace serves.

Grace Levin contributed with 20 assists and Camryn Hausler added nine assists and four kills. The Tigers face Crystal Lake South at 6 p.m Thursday for the title.

Crystal Lake South 2, Lakes 0: At the Class 3A Crystal Lake Central Regional, Jenna Rhoades topped the Gators (20-15) with 13 assists and three blocks as they defeated the Eagles, 25-16, 27-25, in their semifinal match.

Kelly Carlson had six digs and four aces, Samantha Wesoly added six kills and Mia Regillio had four blocks.

Prairie Ridge 2, Wauconda 0: At the Class 3A Wauconda Regional, Trinity Sheridan knocked down 11 kills and Hannah Baudin added 16 assists and 12 digs as the Wolves (20-16) defeated the Bulldogs, 25-13, 25-18, in their semifinal match.

Ansley Morlock had three aces and Kaylin Mitchell added two blocks for the Wolves, who will meet Kaneland at 6 p.m. Thursday in the title match.

Woodstock 2, Boylan 0: At the Class 3A Woodstock Regional, Sophie Wicker led the Blue Streaks (30-6) with 21 assists, five aces and 11 digs in their semifinal win over the Titans, 25-10, 25-14.

Hanna Berry and Emma Brand each had eight kills, Maddie Moan added five kills. Wicker passed 1,800 career assists in the match.

Woodstock faces Woodstock North at 6 p.m. Thursday for the championship.

Woodstock North 2, Antioch 1: At Woodstock, the Thunder (19-17) got 15 assists and five aces from Kylie Schulze in a semifinal win over the Sequoits, 25-9, 24-26, 25-16.

Brooke Amann had seven kills, nine digs and three blocks. Alyssa Wickersheim added eight kills and two aces and Katelyn Wickersheim had 10 digs.

Marengo 2, Winnebago 0: At the Class 2A Winnebago Regional, Marengo (22-11-4) got seven kills from Lillie Simons and 16 assists from Lilly Johnson as they defeated Winnebago, 25-15, 25-16, in their semifinal match.

Simons added five blocks, Kaetlyn Jeschke topped the Indians with 20 digs and four aces, and Alexis Kunde had five kills and seven digs.

Marengo faces Rockford Lutheran at 6 p.m. Thursday for the regional title.

Harvest Christian 2, Marian Central 1: At the Class 2A Marian Central Regional in Woodstock, the Lions defeated the Hurricanes, 19-25, 25-10, 25-15, in their semifinal match.

Gretchen Graff led the Hurricanes (12-23) with 20 assists, Grace Kramer added nine kills and Ingrid Reyes had 11 digs.

St. Edward 2, Johnsburg 0: At the Class 2A Marian Central Regional in Woodstock, the Green Wave defeated the Skyhawks, 25-15, 25-21, in their semifinal match and will take on Harvest Christian in Thursday’s championship match.
