Police are looking for a 17-year-old Island Lake resident who was reported missing on Saturday.
Island Lake police said Abe Gonzalez was last seen wearing a gray hoodie, blue jeans and white shoes. He was last seen walking west on Maple Avenue in unincorporated Lake County.
Gonzalez is 5-foot-8, weighs 176 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes.
Gonzalez was seen by his father walking out the front door of his home in Island Lake on Friday.
According to the Island Lake Police’s Facebook page, Gonzalez said he was going out to get some fresh air. Later that evening, Gonzalez was seen at a home in the 26000 block of Morey Street attending a party in unincorporated Lake County. He was then seen leaving that house on foot by himself about midnight Saturday. Gonzalez’s father notified Island Lake Police of his son’s disappearance at 6:35 p.m. Saturday after Gonzalez failed to return home.
It is believed by police that Gonzalez’s cellphone is not working, and the battery reportedly is spent.
A full canvass of the neighborhood was conducted, and police interviewed those who had been with Gonzalez earlier as well. Foot patrols also were conducted, police said.
The Island Lake Police then requested assistance from Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team at 7:30 a.m. Sunday.
The crash assistance team used drones to search wooded and open field areas with no results. Illinois/Wisconsin Search and Rescue Dogs also assisted in the search, arriving later Sunday afternoon.
Agencies assisting Island Lake include Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team, the Illinois/Wisconsin Search and Rescue Dogs, Wauconda Police Department and the Lake County Sheriff’s office for their assistance in this investigation.
Anyone with any information about Gonzalez’s whereabouts can contact the Island Lake Police Department at 847-526-2100.
