Letter: Confused by president's impeachment strategy

To the Editor:

I have to admit that I am baffled by the incomprehensible strategy of President Donald Trump as he prepares for his impeachment trial in the Senate. He claims that the impeachment in the House was a sham and a hoax because he was not allowed to present evidence of his innocence in the Ukraine affair.

The articles of impeachment will be judged by a Republican majority in the Senate, so why are the president and the senate majority leader talking about not calling witnesses and the White House indicating that they will go as far as the Supreme Court to prevent officials from testifying and producing requested documents.

The President claims that these witnesses and documents would prove that his call to the Ukraine president was both perfect and innocent, so his refusal to allow White House officials to testify and produce documents, does not make sense and as I said – incomprehensible.
